![]() Lack of NTFS support is not Apple's fault, it is Microsoft's. ![]() Summary: users want interoperability but vendors try to keep their filesystems proprietary. I have no idea whether Samba runs under MacOS but I suspect that there is no technical barrier since Samba runs on BSDs (I assume). (Too bad I would have preferred NFS.) That fight opening SMB was fought by the Samba project. SMB is almost universal as a network filesystem. I'm not saying it is good but I think every OS can handle it. The only universal filesystem format is exFAT. Even Linux support for it has historically been crap (I imagine that it is fine now). If I were responsible I'd spend an hour researching this.) (Warning: this is from my increasingly faulty memory. ![]() Yet they can both get 99.999% of the same jobs done. I swear people just don't want to learn a new os and would rather return a product or just complain. lmao you're switching to a new OS, just switch to APFS and move on with your life. MacOS litterally offers the SAME thing - instead of ctrl-X and ctrl-V it's cmd-X and cmd-V.Īnd NTFS. Personally I find dragging and dropping between two windows or tabs faster and easier (and there's zero chance of data loss like there is with Windows' implementation of cut + paste), but sometimes I'll cut and paste in macOS. Or if you want to move them (similar to cutting + pasting in Windows) you can use Opt+Cmd+V or Opt+Right Click+"Move Item Here". Then you can either paste them (Cmd + V, or right click + "Paste") if you want a copy. Maybe in the future I will look into the Macbooks for other tasks but for the price the Mini did not cut it. On Mac, hold down key then scroll all the way to top menu. SMB dropped many times so gave up.ģ) going from Windows to MAcOS found the non direct cut and paste option on Mac really irritating, Windows is too bloody simple -right click. so cheap such a big multinational billion dollar company cannot pay for the NTFS license for their OS.Ģ) really pathetic SMB network sharing protocol, for programs like Kodi to read the network drives from MAc you need to lower settings to SMB 1 which is old, poor security and bugs. Have 10 external drives 2 to 4 TBs each attached to powered 3.0 hub but felt they were always in jeopardy of being corrupted since the drives would disappear sometimes or that program will do bad writes. First I love the form factor and design but just my experienceġ) lack of NTFS support without having to downgrade security and install a 3rd party program and pay money to write to those drives was a big issue for me. I had to return mine since it could not perform the duties I had hope it would replace.
